Voter confirmation letters coming out this month

by admin on 8 January, 2015

Kingston Council will be writing to every resident on the electoral register during January 2015.  National changes to the registration process mean if you have moved house or turned 18 recently you may not be on the electoral register.

If the details in your ‘Confirmation of Voter Registration 2015’ letter are correct you do not need to do anything.  If you do not receive a letter by then end of January or any details are incorrect visit http://www.kingston.gov.uk/info/200263/voons/625/register_to_vote/2 to find out how to make sure you’re registered to vote.

National changes to the Individual Electoral Registration, have meant that many residents that have moved recently, particularly students and young people, will not be on the register.  Our Council team are working hard to make sure that everyone eligible to vote is on the register, but it is a difficult task. Previously the university registered all the new students in the halls of residence.  They can no longer do that, so each student has to register individually and for many, even if they know about it, it’s not making it to the top of their to-do list.  This is bad news for democracy.
