Kingston Pound goes from strength to strength

by lizgreen on 10 November, 2015

Kingston Pound is going from strength to strength with 2 new announcements:

  • New design competition for printed Kingston Pound
  • Kingston Council to accept Kingston Pound for business rates

The competition to design the printed Kingston Pound has been launched.  Kingston pound invite everyone, no matter what age, to create a design that can be incorporated into the printed Kingston Pound, with a special category for school children.

  • Every entry will be put on display in a prominent location in Kingston for everyone to see.
  • Every person submitting a design will have their name micro texted into the design of the note security.
  • Each Kingston Pound will be the same quality as the money in your wallet or purse with a lifespan in excess of three years.
  • This is a great chance for children, designers, artists or anyone to help highlight the importance of community and pride in our borough; and supporting local businesses and encouraging the establishment of local supply chains to reduce delivery miles.

Additionally, Kingston Council is encouraging businesses within the borough to pay their business rates using the Kingston Pound electronic app.  This will help local businesses attract local customers and then use the local currency to pay their bills.

We are very supportive of the Kingston Pound initiative.  It is proven to bring more business to the independent traders of Kingston, strengthen the local economy and keep our high streets diverse and distinct – one of Kingston’s great characteristics. The current trial has been running since March, but it’s never to late to start taking part. More and more traders are signing up to accept Kingston Pounds and these new announcements will help the Kingston Pound move to the next stage.
