Kingston Council chief executive ‘asked to leave’

by lizgreen on 28 November, 2015

Kingston Borough’s  long serving Chief Executive, Bruce McDonald, has been asked to leave the Council. Speaking about Bruce McDonald’s time on the Council, Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Councillor Liz Green said,

“I was taken aback by the news as it was totally unexpected! I am disappointed to learn Bruce McDonald has gone, he had huge respect across the Borough and certainly didn’t deserve to leave this Council through a back room deal, forced through by Conservative Leader of the Council, Councillor Kevin Davis.

I sincerely wish Bruce every success for the future and on behalf of Liberal Democrat Councillors, past and present, I would like to thank him for the loyalty, commitment and steadfast devotion he has given to the Borough, particularly during our Administration.

We can only speculate on why he has been pushed out.  There are now some difficult questions for the Leader of the Council to reveal and that is how much has the deal he initiated cost the residents?

Whilst there is ongoing media speculation about whether a council even needs a Chief Executive, someone has to be at the top. Councillors cannot do the work of the council they are there to set the political direction. And anyway, you would not want Kevin Davis to run the Council so I assume he’s looking for a Conservative Chief Executive or someone who will be given a new fancy job title and who will, along with his new Head of Communications say, ‘Yes Kevin’.”
