Today I have had my new blue lidded wheelie bin delivered. I am fortunate that we have space at the side of our house to store it. We know that many do not have space.

I’ve sorted my week’s recycling into the new categories. As the pictures show 2 nearly full green boxes with plastics, glass, tins and the blue lidded bin with paper and card.

So here is the problem – I will need 3/4 green boxes to store my plastic/glass/tins recycling for 2 weeks and it will take me probably over a month to even get close to filling my blue lidded bin.

I try to recycle everything we can, but do I want to have a mostly empty blue lidded bin (and the landfill bin is rarely over half full after 2 weeks) and 3 or 4 overflowing green boxes? It will be tempting to just put recyclables into the a wheelie bin on the night before it is collected!

We are an average family of 4, what happens when there are more in your house? How long will a single person take to fill a blue lidded bin that big? This is why I believe the new recycling service is not good for residents and needs to be reviewed as these flaws are obvious before it’s even begun.
