NHS London has given final full approval to the new health centre and primary school, as the last step to deliver these modern and much needed facilities. Building work will now start later this month and the new school will open in September 2012 with the Health facility opening Spring 2013.
I am absolutely delighted that this final hurdle has been passed. Whilst outline business case approval was given some time ago, it always needed the final sign off before work could start on the site. Planning permission was granted in March, thanks to the Lib Dems on the development control committee (all 4 Conservatives – not one from the Surbiton area – voted against Surbiton having state of the art healthcare facilities and a school for our growing population).
says Cllr Liz Green
The Healthcare building will provide new premises for up to 8 GP practices, outpatients, urgent care (minor injuries) diagnostics (blood tests, ultrasound, ECG, X-rays), community services and therapies, minor procedures and community pharmacy. The primary school will provide 60 school places per school year with an overall capacity of 420 pupils, a 26 place nursery and additional provision for special needs pupils.
