Mary recently attended the LGA Ageing Well Seminar, which brought together representatives from Councils and organisations across England and Wales who are concerned to ensure that the needs of the elderly are fully reflected in all aspects of local policies.  One interesting issue which she hopes to follow-up was the similarity of concerns expressed by youth fora and those of the elderly.  Namely:

• Discrimination due to their age
• Transport problems
• Lack of places in which to meet

 A possible area of future collaboration between young and old in RBK?  The recent Guardian Award to Kingston Age Concern is evidence that local voluntary sector provision for the older sections of our community is outstanding.  While this is no reason for complacency it is, at the very least, a good point from which to make further progress.
