Claremont Gardens is amongst the nine outdoor recreational spaces within Kingston that have been put forward for a public vote to become part of a prestigious nationwide scheme to mark two 2012 landmark events.

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge is an officially endorsed legacy initiative to mark two landmark events scheduled to take place in the UK in 2012; Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics.

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, headed by its Patron, Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge and operated by Fields in Trust, aims to protect 2012 outdoor recreational spaces in communities all across the country as a permanent living legacy of these landmark occasions both now and for future generations.

The Queen Elizabeth II Challenge mirrors the memorial project created by the Fields in Trust following King George V’s death in 1936. 471 parks and playing fields and children playgrounds were dedicated in perpetuity as King George V Playing Fields.
