Kingston receives £5.3m school capital extra money

by admin on 4 November, 2011

Kingston Council will be receiving £5.3m of the extra schools capital funding that was announced by central Government.  This extra £500m is for growth needed in schools’ capacity due to increases in population.

In Kingston we have seen increases of 30% in our birth rate.  We put in 8.5 extra forms of entry (240 more children) in a permanent expansion programme for our schools from September 2011, spending over £46m.  Further expansion in primary schools and the corresponding increase in our secondary schools is still needed.

This extra money is excellent news as it will help us to reduce our borrowing on our existing expansion or look further at what additional expansion is still needed.  We are a small eduation borough and this shows we can ‘punch above our weight’ when it comes to working with central Government.
