Only a week til the Torch comes to Surbiton

by admin on 17 July, 2012

On Tuesday 24th July at approximately 8.45am the Olympic Torch will turn into Victoria Road to come through Surbiton town centre on day 67 of the 70 day tour of the UK.  It will travel up Victoria Road and then turn right into Claremont Road, then straight over Maple Road onto Surbiton Crescent.  In total the torch will be in Kingston Borough from 8.22am at Hook until it’s handed over to Richmond around 9.45am.

The bunting has gone up in preparation of the torch relay next week.  Like many residents I am excited that the torch is coming through Surbiton town centre and will be there to see this once in a lifetime event.  For those who have to get elsewhere the road closures will be kept to a minimum with a rolling road closure programme meaning that no road should be closed for more than 15 minutes at a time.

For full details of the torch route and estimated times see Kingston Council’s website – http://www.kingston.gov.uk/information/news_and_events/news.htm?id=128730

The Olympic Flame will pass through Surbiton for a second time on its 70th and final day when it makes its way by boat along the River Thames from Hampton Court Palace to the Olympic Stadium. It will pass through Kingston during the morning of Friday 27 July.
