Surbiton Health Centre update

by admin on 4 February, 2013

surbiton health centre - april 12On 4 March 2013, the new purpose-built health centre will open on the site previously occupied by Surbiton Hospital in Ewell Road. The new centre will include all of the services previously provided at the hospital when it closed (temporarily based at Tolworth Hospital) – as well as four local GP surgeries – plus some other services new to Surbiton.
Central Surgery, Langley Medical Practice and Brunswick Surgery (currently in Oak Hill Road) are all moving to the new building along with Berrylands Surgery (currently in Howards Road) to join up with the community health services
provided by Your Healthcare (both at Oak Hill and Tolworth Hospital) including speech & language therapy, podiatry, leg ulcer clinics and physiotherapy.

There will also be a pharmacy, diagnostics including X-ray, a new breast screening service, minor procedures, treatment rooms, outpatient clinics, community mental health outpatient services and psychological therapies. The community dentistry service currently located at Oakhill will also move in. Not all services will open at once and more services are planned to be located at the centre, so the NHS will continue to update local people on the facilities available.

This co-location of services will help care providers to work together to develop the best possible, patient-focused health services for the future. The plan is to move the GP surgeries into the building first (opening on the 4th March) and the Your Healthcare services a week later (opening on 11th March).

The innovatively designed new health centre incorporates the latest advancements in modern healthcare and will deliver high quality, easily accessible, joined-up healthcare, whilst reducing the need for local people to travel to hospitals and care centres further afield.

All GP surgeries will continue to see their own patients, whilst some shared functions will be introduced to improve efficiency – such as a new reception and appointments booking service and a simple electronic check-in system.

There are 70 parking spaces for use by patients with appointments and those visiting the pharmacy. To prevent car park misuse, a number-plate checking system will be in place, so that patients can park for their health visit when they need to. Drop off spaces for people arriving by car or taxi are also available a few metres from the entrance to the building.
