There are several interesting items on the agenda for the Surbiton Neighbourhood meeting on 20th March 2013. All neighbourhood meetings are open to the public and we are keen to hear from residents on all issues. There is also 30 minutes at the start of the meeting for public questions on any subject.
This meeting includes a proposal for a public toilet at Surbiton Library. At the moment the only toilet at the site is a staff toilet. Staff do allow young children, disabled and elderly access, but the situation is far from ideal. When Kingston Children’s library introduced a public toilet it made it much easier for parents to make full use of the services. I definately back the introduction of this public facility, and the cost is being met by an underspend, so no new budget is needed.

Another issue we hope will be given the green light is a pedestrian crossing facility at the bottom of Surbiton Hill Road (junction with Maple Road and Beaufort Road). This junction is well used and crossing from the Waggon and Horses pub to Assembly Rooms is very difficult at the moment. We have fought for an improved crossing at this junction for many years and I’m delighted that it’s coming forward.

There is also the planning application (for consultation only, not decision) for new permanent buildings, new entrance and multi-use games area at Christ Church School in Berrylands. This is part of the Council’s vital permanent expansion programme to provide sufficent primary school places.
