Surbiton Wildlife Group – community project update

by lizgreen on 2 July, 2015

Surbiton Wildlife Group is community-spirited and open to everybody who gets excited by the natural world around them.

Surbiton Wildlife Group are organising a community clean-up of Claremont Gardens in the centre of town. Activities will involve litter picking, pruning, weeding, mulch spreading and socialising! They need as many people to help as possible, so please go along if only for an hour.  The clean up is Friday 17th July, 12pm – 6pm and Saturday 18th July, 10am – 6pm.

Surbiton Wildlife Group has also won the Aviva community grant of up to £10,000 to restore the pond in Claremont Gardens.

This is a truly amazing group of residents, who have come together to share their love of nature, but also actively help improve our environment.  Their work to date on Claremont Gardens is already providing dividends and the Aviva grant and special clean-up will make it even better for people and wildlife.

I’m delighted that as local Councillors we’ve been able to support this group.  Kingston Council just doesn’t have the money to be able to get some of these things done, but as a community, working together, we can really improve this vital green space.

We will continue to provide advice and practical help to support this community group.  We are very grateful to everyone who organises or gets involved in this project.

says St Mark’s Ward Councillor and river road resident, Diane White

Surbiton Wildlife Group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 6.30pm in Glenmore House, The Crescent, Surbiton. All welcome. For more information visit www.surbitonwildlife.co.uk
