A housing development scheme featuring 700 new homes had recently been submitted for the site by Spenhill, Tesco’s planning and development arm.

Following the announcement to the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday 14 October, Meyer Bergman issued the following statement:

“Meyer Bergman can confirm the acquisition of the Former Government Offices site in Tolworth.  We acknowledge the significant work Spenhill and the project team have undertaken to date and have purchased the site based on the scheme already submitted to the Council, as we believe the plans for housing are deliverable and will bring significant benefit to the local community. We look forward to a decision being made by Kingston Council and to continuing to work with the local community and stakeholders on delivering the proposals as part of our growing residential development business.”
